For the last couple years, about 2-3 times a month I send my family a Whatsapp message called a “MMM” or “Mom’s Mentoring Moment”. It’s usually a couple paragraphs with memories, random thoughts, spiritual encouragement, or advice. This is one I sent them several months ago:
“MMM #118 Good, the Enemy of Best
Just wanted to send an encouragement this morning to have self control with your phones and computer usage. “I will set no wicked thing before my eyes, I hate the work of them that turn aside, it will not cleave to me.” Psalm 101:3.
Even if the YouTube short we’re watching is not all-out evil, it’s more than likely not, “pure, honest, true, of good report..” Or if it still meets that criteria, at the very least it’s probably still a waste of time. We can easily get distracted to run down rabbit trails that sabatoge our time and are not uplifting. Good is the enemy of best! I encourage each of us to not waste time! Use every God given moment wisely… For the very best!!” End of MMM
Although I acknowledge that there are many good and uplifting things on the internet (like my blogs!), most of us don’t stay there and get distracted with the superficial.
Here’s a thought provoking quote:
“We must turn away from a thousand topics that invite attention. There are matters that consume time and arouse inquiry, but end in nothing. The highest interests demand the close attention and energy that are too often given to comparatively insignificant things.” With God at Dawn p. 113.
I don’t claim to be an expert on this topic, nor do I always make good choices (and my thoughts for this post aren’t coming easily, so I think best to keep it short). But I’d just like to encourage us each to be more intentional in this area. Let’s let God guide our choices and live a life of purpose, with no regrets.
